This PARENTING TIP will change every week!

 Bicycle Safety Starts with You!

v     Require that your child wear a helmet that complies with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.  It should fit snugly and sit flat on the head.

v     Provide a bicycle that is the correct size.  Rider should be able to stand over the top tube of the bike.

v     Check frequently to make sure that all parts are working well.  Handlebars should be firmly in place.  Wheels must be straight and secure.

v     Provide a carrier for carrying books, bags or other items.

v     Check the brakes frequently.  Hand brake levers should not touch the handlebars when they are fully applied.  Brake pads should wear evenly and not be separated more than one eighth inch from the rim.

v     Provide clothes that make your child visible such as fluorescent or bright colors.

v     Do not allow night bike riding.

v     Be sure that your child knows all safety rules, and try to observe him on the road regularly.
