Safety Starts with You!

Require that your child wear a
helmet that complies with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. It
should fit snugly and sit flat on the head.

Provide a bicycle that is the
correct size. Rider should be able to stand over the top tube of the bike.

Check frequently to make sure
that all parts are working well. Handlebars should be firmly in place.
Wheels must be straight and secure.

Provide a carrier for carrying
books, bags or other items.
v
Check the brakes frequently.
Hand brake levers should not touch the handlebars when they are fully
applied. Brake pads should wear evenly and not be separated more than one
eighth inch from the rim.
v
Provide clothes that make your
child visible such as fluorescent or bright colors.
v
Do not allow night bike
riding.
v
Be sure that your child knows
all safety rules, and try to observe him on the road regularly. |
